A Case for Recycling Standards - We Need Your Help
Overview
How much longer can we go on with councils arbitrarily choosing their own standards for recycling? It seems to us that they are able to pick and choose just how much recycling they want to do, and what materials they want to include or exclude. This cannot be acceptable.
If we are to be held responsible as citizens for recycling, we need to have proper support from all councils, to recycle EVERYTHING that is possible. Too many councils are refusing to recycle plastics in particular. Plastics themselves are largely made from oil, and therefore non-renewable, contribute a significant portion of landfill, and are generally not bio-degradable. If ever there was a material that should be top priority, then surely plastic is it. See our recycling page for details.
At My Eco World we seek to compile a full report of the differing levels of recycling supported by councils. Once compiled we will lobby for a national minimum standard, and will happily name and shame those who are falling below the acceptable standard.
Our Approach
- Compile full list of councils and their current recycling standards
- Lobby central government for a UK wide minimum standard
- Name and shame those failing to meet our (the general public's) standards
Get Involved
We need feedback from you on the services offered by your local council. Specifically we want to know what your councils do and do not recycle, your opinion of their service, and what should be the minimum. We are asking people to email this data, together with the council name, to CouncilFeedback@myecoworld.net. Your email address will not be passed to any third party organisations and we will NOT spam you!
Thank you
